Are You Prepared for Cold and Flu Season?

Dear reader

Cold and flu season is coming. What do you do to keep from getting sick? Keep reading for some of my suggestions.

There is the established concept that to keep your immune system strong and resilient, you need to be exposed to germs. You may have heard that kids who don't regularly get outside or have pets tend to develop allergies more frequently than those who do. That's because their immune systems have not been called to action, so they are more vulnerable when they are challenged.

Resilience is the key. Whether you get sick or not depends on two things: the strength of the bug versus the strength of your immune system. Your immune system gets stronger when it faces and overcomes challenges.

Today’s blog gives you DIY tips to improve your immune system’s strength and resilience.

1. Drink electrolyte beverages. You can add Celtic or sea salt plus some honey to your water or purchase such drinks from any supermarket. Broth of any type is a good source. Or include seaweed in any of its forms in your diet. Electrolytes replace those you lose from breathing, sweating and elimination. They help the water you drink be absorbed by your cells.

2. Get 7.5 to 9 hours of good sleep. Your body repairs and regenerates during sleep. You know about R&R - rest and relaxation. The autumn and winter seasons are prime times for getting sick. As sunlight fades, you require more sleep. Do your best to sleep 7.5 to 9 hours. And relax during the day to recharge your cells with energy.

3. Eat nutrient-rich food as much as possible. Think of a rainbow with red, orange, yellow, blue, indigo and purple. Eating foods of different colors gives you a variety of healthy plant-based nutrients. And remember to eat high-quality protein and fats as well. You need all of those foods to build a healthy body.

4. Take supplements. My favorite immune support supplement is Immune Charge from QuickSilver. It comes in mini shots to take with you when attending large gatherings or traveling. But it also comes in a bottle to take daily if needed. I take Immune Charge shots in the airport when I travel. And I haven’t gotten sick once. Click on this link for Immune Charge. You can order by setting up a Fullscript account for a 10% discount and free shipping for orders of $50 or more. Look for the box of 12 individual Immune Charge Shots or the big bottle.

FUN FACT

As part of a standard convention, pilots and co-pilots do not eat the same food before a flight in case of food poisoning (or worse). If one of the pilots is incapacitated (unable to leave the bathroom) then the other pilot can take over.
