People who take quality supplements consistently for decades actually have measurably better health outcomes

Dear reader

Here's something that doesn't make headlines but probably should: people who take quality supplements consistently for decades actually have measurably better health outcomes.

I'm not talking about wishful thinking or marketing claims. I'm talking about blood draws, lab work, and hard data.

The Landmark Study

Researchers at UC Berkeley, led by Dr. Gladys Block, studied people who had been taking multiple supplements for over 20 years. (Read the full study here) They compared their health markers against non-supplement users and people who just popped a basic multivitamin.

The results? The long-term supplement users had:

Significantly lower rates of diabetes (2.9 cases per 100 people vs. 11.1 in the single multivitamin group)

Better cardiovascular markers — higher HDL ("good" cholesterol), lower triglycerides

Lower inflammation markers

Healthier blood pressure levels

And here's what's really interesting: when researchers followed up 10 years later, these benefits were still there. After 30+ years of consistent supplementation, the group maintained better cardiometabolic profiles across the board.

What This Means For You

Now, I'll be honest — the people in this study also tended to have healthier lifestyles overall. You can't out-supplement a bad diet. But what this research suggests is that consistency matters. Taking quality supplements over time appears to have a cumulative, protective effect.

The key word there is "quality." Not all supplements are created equal, and what you take matters as much as whether you take anything at all.

My Recommendation After 1,000+ Hours of Nutrition Study

Over the years, I've invested over 1,000 hours studying nutrition. If you're going to take nothing else, most practitioners (myself included) recommend at minimum:

1. A Quality B-Complex — Essential for energy, brain function, and metabolism. Most people are deficient and don't know it. I recommend Nordic Naturals B Complex.

2. EPA/DHA Fish Oils — The omega-3s your body can't make on its own. Critical for heart health, brain function, and managing inflammation. I also recommend Nordic Naturals — they're third-party tested and consistently rank among the purest on the market.

FUN FACT

The brilliant colors of sunrise and sunset appear when tiny shifts in air and particles scatter sunlight just right. This perfect alignment of physics and timing shows how small shifts can create something beautiful.

The same is true for taking supplements. That small shift will improve the quality of your life.
