You’re working all day long with your upper body: reaching, lifting, typing texting, eating, carrying things… You know what you do. But do you know how important it is to work with the lower part of your body also?
My Taoist teacher Mantak Chia says, “Don’t bother about massaging your muscles. Focus on your abdomen. ”That’s where most of your organs and hormone producing glands reside.
As you get older gravity takes it’s toll dropping these vital workhouses for health lower in your torso. That can lead to digestive, urologic, sexual, and elimination problems.
Besides abdominal massage promoted by osteopaths as Visceral Manipulation and Taoist’s as Chi Nei Tsang you can take a fun DIY approach by using Dr. Bri’s 14 Minute Figure 8 Workout. I learned about this belly toning workout from one of my patients. When I was checking points on her abdomen during her last visit I was surprised that my fingers didn’t sink into her soft belly like always before. Instead she had developed a strong wall of muscle in its place. I wanted some of that! Now I am enjoying moving along with Dr. Bri’s video. The music is fun and if at first confusing; you quickly get the idea and begin to enjoy these sinuous strengthening exercises.
