Bad Posture Getting You Down?

Dear reader

F4CP President, Dr. Sherry McAllister and TLC Crack Addicts star, Dr. Alessandra Colon, took chiropractic to the streets of New York City during New York Fashion Week (NYFW) and the conversations were powerful.

As models, designers and influencers gathered to celebrate fashion, they engaged with everyday people on a topic that connects confidence, appearance and health: posture. They highlighted how standing tall not only complements style but also reflects overall whole-being.

Their message was simple and clear:

Posture impacts confidence.

Confidence enhances how we present ourselves to the world.

Chiropractic care supports both posture and whole-being health.

Maybe you're not a model, but bad posture isn't doing you any good either.

Beyond fashion week, posture has a significant effect on your brain and your body. Do you spend a lot of time staring at screens like handheld devices and laptops, bending your head forward and hunching your shoulders? This leads to a forward head position when you stand, sit, or walk. The bad news about that is that the more your head goes forward over your shoulders, the greater your risk of dementia.

If that wasn't bad enough, you are also squashing your organs when you slouch forward. That messes up your digestion, causing carbohydrates to ferment (gas), proteins to putrify (stinky breath), and fats to rancidify. It's a little-known fact that your brain and nervous system rely on healthy fats for your genius to shine through.

And there's the harmful effect on your musculoskeletal system. For every inch, the middle of your ears are forward, of the middle of your shoulders, you are putting 30-60 lbs of pressure on your neck and shoulder area. Because your neck and lower back curve towards the front of your body, stress on your neck causes problems with your lower back too. Now you may think, I can deal with a bit of stress on my neck and back, but please remember that the nerves coming out of your neck and back go to your muscles and joints as well as your organs and glands. That means not only the possibility of pain but also disruption of your hormones and elimination.

Did you see the show Downton Abbey? Remember how those ladies sat upright? That should be your best example for how to sit, stand, and walk. (Without corsets, of course!)

Did you know that there are 3 arches in your feet? Interestingly enough, if the 3 arches are collapsed, that also causes a problem with your posture and balance.

If you are not local, please go to Footlevelers.com to find a practitioner near you. Here's to getting your Downton Abbey posture on!

FUN FACT

Sitting up straight isn't just about looking confident - it's actually giving your brain the oxygen and blood flow it needs.
