Sunscreen Alert!
A team of researchers from the Institute of Pharmacology and Toxicology at the University of Zurich, Switzerland reported that 5 of 6 commonly used chemical sunscreen agents act like estrogen. In other words, you are dosing yourself with synthetic estrogens without knowing it by applying sunscreens that contain the ingredients listed below. Since so many cancers are caused by excessive estrogen (breast, prostate, uterus, ovaries, head and neck), it's best to minimize all synthetic sources of estrogen.
The 5 chemicals, benzophenone-3 (Bp-3), homosalate (HMS), 4-MBC, octyl-methoxycinnamate (OMC), and octyl-dimethyl PABA (OD-PABA), were found to increase cancer cell division and induce cancer cell protein production. They also caused an increase in uterine growth before puberty. And what might they be doing to our men and boys--emasculating them and contributing to prostate cancer?
There are better options.
Because everything we put on our skin is also absorbed into our body, we should hold it as accountable as what we put in our mouth to eat. In other words, we shouldn't put anything on our skin unless we would also eat it!
A respected colleague, Dr. Lani Simpson, Chiropractor, is distributing a line of sunscreen and skin care products out of her concern for the increasing amounts of excess estrogen related cancers. Visit her website www.ecolani.com to learn more about her products. You may purchase these protective and rejuvenating skin care lotions through her website or at our offices in Albany and San Rafael.
When I sent out this newsletter last summer, I recommended Alba Botanica, Aubrey Organics and Dr. Hauschka sunscreens. After further investigation, I discovered that only Dr. Hauschka sunscreens are comparable in quality with Ecolani's. But ... you save money with Ecolani products, because they are more economically priced.
Here are some additional hot summer weather tips. The formula mentioned below is also essential for fluid loss from prolonged diarrhea or vomiting.
How to Treat Heat Exhaustion and Dehydration
1. Stop all activity and move to a cooler environment.
2. Replenish lost salts and body fluids: Drink a rehydration formula such as dilute chicken soup or... Gatorade - if you must. Better yet, make your own (without the unhealthy ingredients that are in Gatorade):
1 Qt. Water
2 TBS honey or sugar
1 TBS salt
1 TBS baking soda (double the salt if no baking soda is available)
1/2 cup orange juice, coconut water or mashed ripe banana if available.
The average adult will improve after drinking 1 - 2 Qts of this liquid. Straight water or juice alone will not replenish salt and may worsen the condition.
